Dear Members and Supporters:
Hope you had a fantastic holiday weekend. The Memorial Day Parade down Uniondale Avenue is one of our most beloved and time-honored events of the year and the signal to the unofficial start of the summer season. It also symbolizes the pride of this community and so we use this opportunity to request your full cooperation in regards to the upkeep of storefronts and homes. We ask that all businesses and residents do their part in representing yourselves in the best possible light to reflect the values and the many assets of Uniondale:
Ensure that the front of your business/home to the curb (including the street) is clear of garbage and debris
Ensure that any needed improvements to your façade, fixtures, or décor have been completed, near completion, or properly secured
Ensure anything peeling, crumbling, torn, old or dilapidated is removed and does not pose a risk to the public
FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN UNNECESSARY FINES imposed by Town of Hempstead Inspectors who will begin regularly surveying our area. In addition, we ask that throughout the season, if you have planters near your establishment please assist in watering the flowers that have been generously provided to us by Nostrand Gardens and their partners. A special thanks also to Sr. Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby for also adding to this effort.
However, our municipality and volunteers can only do so much and we ask that you support the efforts to maintain the integrity of Uniondale. Furthermore, regardless of whether or not you are a part of a corporate franchise we expect that you will invest in beautification measures that mirror the standards and expectations of your brand consistently.
Lastly, in the coming months in conjunction with the Nostrand Gardens Civic Association, Greater Uniondale Area Action Coalition, and Uniondale Community Council we will be initiating stepped-up campaigns to facilitate the movement of the "Uniondale Avenue Streetscaping" project that is stalled in the legislature. We will also be conducting surveying and begin a case study to gauge the impact of the Coliseum on our local economy. Stay tuned for instructions on how to participate.
IT IS TIME. We also encourage you to question all candidates running for office on their intention to support our community's project and whether they will make sure it is immediately placed on the legislative agenda. We will notify you of their responses so you can make an informed decision about who should be in leadership for both the Town of Hempstead and Nassau County. If you have any questions or concerns with any of the above please contact us. We can assist you with information and resources to help you fulfill not only your obligations as a business owner or resident, but also support your personal and professional objectives of continued growth and success. Stay abreast of business matters affecting you and important community initiatives. Join the Chamber and thank you as always for your time and dedication to Uniondale.
