Nassau County Police Department 1st Precinct which covers much of Uniondale celebrated the opening of it's new facility at 900 Merrick Rd in Baldwin. The station house is a 20,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility with a dedicated line-up room, private interview rooms, a turnout room, a break room and an exercise gym. It was a $13 million project that replaced a crumbling Depression-era building.
Joined by Town of Hempstead and Nassau County government officials, the NCPD Commissioner Thomas Krumpter hosted the event where attendees were privy to information about the construction and a tour of the building.
Uniondale representatives in attendance included Pearl Jacobs president of Nostrand Gardens Civic Association, Paul Gibson president of the Uniondale Community Land Trust, Rahsmia Zatar executive director of S.T.R.O.N.G. Youth and Margo K. Cargill president of the Uniondale Chamber of Commerce.
